However, the Jersey Consumer Council said several providers had still refused applications and called for the government to work closer with businesses and banks. A spokesperson for Jersey's government said it had "engaged with providers throughout this process" and whether products were offered in the island "remains a commercial decision".

"We're pushing the government to write them an official letter to say this piece of legislation has now changed, Jersey's now open for business... and then leave it up to them whether they decide they to come back or not." A spokesperson said the government had "successfully delivered a project to share islanders' data with credit reference agencies". "This was a key issue identified by the industry as an obstacle to providing credit cards in Jersey," they said. "It remains a commercial decision for providers to decide whether to offer their products or services, including credit cards, in Jersey.
